Pure Land 401 – A Tribute to One of Yunnan’s Oldest Puer Recipes
At PureLand Tea, the name 401 isn’t just a number—it’s a tribute to one of the earliest factory-style puerh tea recipes, dating back to the 1940s. This name follows the traditional factory production code system used by CNNP (China National Native Produce & Animal By-Products Import & Export Corporation, also known as Zhongcha) and other major puerh producers in Yunnan.
What Does 401 Mean?
The number 401 follows a classification system used in the puerh tea industry to indicate the recipe’s origin, decade, and batch number:
• 4 = Represents the 1940s, the decade in which this puerh recipe was first created and standardized.
• 01 = Indicates that this was the first batch of this particular recipe or production run.
Unlike other well-known factory recipes such as 7542 (from the 1970s) or 8582 (from the 1980s), 401 is one of the oldest recorded factory recipes. It originates from a time when large-scale puerh production was just beginning in Yunnan, laying the foundation for the aged, compressed tea culture that is now world-renowned.
PureLand 401 – Reviving a Historic Recipe
Our PureLand 401 pays homage to this historic 1940s formulation by using high-quality sun-dried Yunnan big-leaf varietals, carefully fermented and pressed using the same traditional techniques. The result is a tea that reflects the deep, earthy, and evolving character that has made puer a timeless drink for generations.
With every sip of Pure Land 401, you’re not just drinking tea—you’re experiencing a legacy that has shaped the world of puer for nearly a century.
